11/8/2023 0 Comments Anno 1800 redditWars with smaller AI wasn't bad and they are often at war with each other and the harder Ai. I eventually took out all AI and now have all islands even though I'm still not doing anything in cape yet. From what I understand lower difficulty AI won't expand to a region you haven't discovered yourself yet. But when I eventually went to arctic I immediately settled all islands. Like I went to cape but then didn't do anything there and the more difficult ai ended up taking all the islands except cape, the main island. I did advance slow or to fast in some cases. The smaller AI you can do a peace tact and take over their islands during that 2 hours and they can't do anything about it lol. As long as I wasn't buying too many shares all at once the AI wouldn't get too mad lol. I took several islands from the easier AI via war or buying out their islands and some from the harder AI. Two easiest AI and one more difficult one. I'm just on normal default settings so for me the AI wasn't to bad. I'm at over 300 hours and still learning something new nearly everyday. Each dlc something new to learn or even maybe relearn. I've seen people suggest adding dlcs slowly, but I personally prefer all of them right away. Just makes so many things undoable as to not be fun. If you are a total conquerer like me influence is a major constraint. In my last playthrough I could have wiped the AI but I still had unoccupied islands so they just jumped and rebuilt. Oh and I enjoy the building phase so no pirates and AI that asks. I swore I wasnt going to do that at the start but some of the design decisions are just bad.ĭo what you want. I have also gone down the modding path as some of the things in the main game are just too annoying. Whether it was building a palace on Ditchwater or Bright Sands (this one is Trell) there is always something new I have learned. I have restarted 3 campaigns that would be considered end gamish.Įach time I have taken what I learned and done it better as it was actually faster to get where I wanted to be at the end. I have 600+ hrs in a very short period of time (work from home). In my opinion this game is beautiful and massive, new DLCs can give you a lot of hours of fun, so it is a pity to condens all the new content to play it in the same time, because it gets overwhelming and then once you get the gist and start to enjoy it there is no new content to add. Unfortunately if you have already purchased the complete package of DLCs you can't turn them on as the game progress, and with each new save you have to decide right there wich DLC to turn on. I honestly loved this approach and plan to keep purchasing a new dlc only once I feel quite confident with my current game and I have a clear undestanding of how things work. Than I started a new save, with a bit more knowledge and experience, and after my next ~50h I purchased and activated in my game the Season 2 pass DLC. I have played my first ~50h just fucking around and making mistakes learning the game, without any reading about strategies etc. My rule of thumb is to get new DLCs only when I start to feel that I would like something more. I understand it is not everyone's cup of tea. My play style is very relaxed, I don't enjoy stressful situations, but rather slowly designing and building well managed and pretty islands, so I currently play without AI nor pirates. It's not unusual to spend ~30 hours just getting to some of the DLCs for the first time in a new game! Then later, can add Artic & Enbesa zones. Get the hang of expanding into the New World & Cape Trelawny. I would suggest starting a game with Sunken Treasures DLC & that's it. If starting the game now with every DLC on, I can see it would feel way to big & overwhelming. When starting a game, you have the option to turn on/off DLC packs (as long as you own them). Land of Lions DLC also gives you some great end-game boosts (Scholars/research to get rare items), but is in itself, another huge lift add-on of complexity. Empire of the Skies DLC is good, but not a must-have IMO. Docklands DLC is also an incredible expander of access to items, greatly helping to reduce overseas trade routes. it adds so much to the game space-wise to expand and build. The vanilla game is fun, but not big enough IMO. There are still things I come across on a new play-through that I didn't know of or find out about previously. It is a huge game! I've played hundreds of hours, probably 50+ new games.
